The University of Sunderland

About
The University of Sunderland
The University of Sunderland delivers advanced, higher and degree apprenticeships from levels 3 to 7 that combine paid work with structured university study, often leading to a diploma, bachelor’s or master’s degree and, in some cases, a relevant professional qualification. Apprentices typically spend around 80% of their time in the workplace and at least 20% in ‘off the job’ learning, gaining higher-level knowledge, skills and behaviours that can be applied directly in their roles. The university works with employers to shape programmes that meet organisational skills needs and uses state‑of‑the‑art facilities in areas such as engineering and digital technologies. Its apprenticeship portfolio spans multiple sectors, including engineering, digital technology, management, teaching, health and community roles, with programmes designed both to upskill existing staff and support new talent pipelines. For employers, apprenticeships are presented as a cost‑effective development route, with levy and co‑investment funding options, and the University provides guidance on funding, registration and programme design. Apprentices do not pay tuition fees, as costs are covered by employer and/or government contributions. Alongside apprenticeships, the University offers a wider range of short courses and CPD, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, and business services that support workforce development and organisational growth.
Apprenticeships Offered:
Apprenticeship standards detail what an apprentice will be doing in their day-to-day job role.
Each standard lists the skills required of apprentices, and every standard is written by a group of employers called trailblazers-experts within their industry that have worked with countless apprentices.
Listed here are the apprenticeship standards this training provider offers training for.
