The Benefits of an Agile Curriculum in Apprenticeships
In 2025 curriculum continues to be considered a burden of tick-boxing for many in a disillusioned education system.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
By now, we are used to the crunch of trying to connect the dots within curriculum to ensure all bases are covered, and for many schools it becomes a logistics exercise to ensure resources and capacity are adequate.
Every now and again you will speak to an educator who has really cracked curriculum design. Those who are pioneering edtech, to those that have developed innovative ways to bring their course to life. It is a joy to see, and we need to do more to promote the educators who get it right.
One of those is Learning Curve Group (LCG) who have been committed to delivering success and doing so by creating an agile curriculum to suit the employer.
It has been a longstanding issue within SME’s particularly around the lack of flexibility or support to develop apprentices. A small business requires a curriculum to be agile, and the provider to be understanding. Too often do we see these organisations get left behind by systems designed to support large businesses.
One of the key concepts that make LCG a great partner is their ability to suit the needs of employers large and small, as a national provider they like to think of themselves as “large enough to cope, but small enough to care”. This means they are able to onboard large cohorts in large organisations but also cater for individual enrolments from smaller businesses. As well as offering roll on, roll off enrolment dates with flexible starts.
The training itself is flexible to requirements with delivery available online, face to face and even 1:1.
It is not often you see 1:1 tutoring available, and so I dug a bit deeper to find out about this method of delivery.
James Fenton, Business Development Director, talked to me about the benefits, including the development of confidence in key skills & modules, whether implementing the foundations or developing more advanced skills. It is all about offering each apprentice personalised support.
A tutor from their Marketing & Content Creation Course added: “I try to make every session useful and inspiring, so apprentices can connect what they’re learning to real-life work. It’s amazing to see them grow, take on challenges, and realise what they’re capable of. For me, it’s not just about teaching—it’s about helping people take that next step in their careers.”
It is clear to see the drive to create positive futures, leads to such inspired content design and delivery.
As always though, the proof is in the pudding. Stats do not lie, and LCG were able to share with me some impressive results from their agile approach to apprenticeships:
- 100% pass rate with 90% passing first time.
- 78% achieving higher grades, with 67% of total apprentices achieving a distinction.
Summary
The benefits of an agile curriculum to apprenticeships are obvious to see. So it is vital that more providers begin to look at their curriculum design through the lens of a business and operate as strategic partners to evolve the landscape and provide meaningful opportunities to train the workforce of tomorrow
