The University of Liverpool is a research‑intensive Russell Group university that also offers work‑based learning routes, including apprenticeships and online programmes that support workforce development. Historically, the university has run a broad apprenticeship scheme for roles such as accounting, business administration, ICT, engineering, laboratory technicians, facilities management and other technical and professional areas, with programmes typically lasting from 12 months to four years and aligned to national standards. Apprenticeships have been available from Level 2 through to Level 7, including an Advanced Clinical Practitioner apprenticeship, and are used both to recruit new talent and to upskill existing technical staff through structured development plans agreed with line managers. The institution emphasises the organisational benefits of recruiting and training apprentices, such as creating a pipeline of skilled technicians and freeing experienced staff to focus on higher‑level duties. In addition, the University of Liverpool delivers flexible, part‑time, 100% online postgraduate certificates, diplomas and master’s programmes in areas including business, computing, health, education and psychology, with specific employer discount schemes for organisations sponsoring multiple employees. These online programmes are positioned to address skills gaps, raise productivity, support retention and attract new talent. Note: The university confirms it is no longer recruiting to new apprenticeship programmes and is in a teach‑out phase for its remaining Level 7 apprenticeship provision.
