Delivery Modes

The University of Greater Manchester (formerly the University of Bolton) delivers a portfolio of higher and degree apprenticeships designed for both new recruits and existing employees. Its programmes typically combine paid employment with part‑time university study, allowing apprentices to work in their roles while attending taught sessions and completing off‑the‑job training of at least six hours per week. The university offers higher and degree apprenticeships from level 5 to level 7, enabling progression up to master’s level. Apprenticeship provision spans areas such as community development and youth work, social work, civil engineering and construction, facilities and built asset management, business and accountancy, health and social care, nursing, dental technology, computing and clinical and biomedical sciences, with professionally endorsed pathways in some disciplines. For employers, the university supports both levy‑paying and non‑levy organisations, outlining funding routes where larger employers use their apprenticeship levy and smaller employers typically contribute 5% of training costs with government co‑investment. The institution also runs the free Entry to Higher Education Apprenticeship Programme (EHEAP), a ten‑week course to help carers, care‑experienced learners and those without level 3 qualifications prepare for progression to degree apprenticeships. Alongside apprenticeships, the university provides a broad range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees and targeted support services, including personal tutors, student advisers, disability services and wellbeing initiatives for those on apprenticeship routes.
