About
Marine Society and Sea Cadets
Marine Society and Sea Cadets is a government-approved training provider specialising in marine and outdoor apprenticeships, supporting both aspiring and serving seafarers to develop their careers. Its apprenticeship offer is focused on the maritime sector and includes standards such as Small Commercial Vessel Crewmember, Ships Master 500gt (Near Coastal), Marina and Boatyard Operative, Port Operative, Port Agent, Port Marine Operations Officer and Seafarer (Deck Rating). These programmes combine on-the-job learning with off-the-job training and are delivered in line with apprenticeship standards, typically lasting from 12 to 24 months depending on the role. The organisation works with employers to help them recruit new apprentices or upskill existing staff, providing guidance on funding routes including levy and non-levy arrangements and the Digital Apprenticeship Service. In addition to apprenticeships, Marine Society offers a wider portfolio of maritime education and training, including Learn@Sea online learning, maritime degrees, professional studies and a Certificate in Maritime Studies, as well as bursaries and scholarships to support career development. The charity also provides specialist marine books, crew libraries, and advice and guidance for those transitioning from sea to shore careers.
Apprenticeships Offered:
Apprenticeship standards detail what an apprentice will be doing in their day-to-day job role.
Each standard lists the skills required of apprentices, and every standard is written by a group of employers called trailblazers-experts within their industry that have worked with countless apprentices.
Listed here are the apprenticeship standards this training provider offers training for.
