About
ABDO College
ABDO College is a specialist education provider for the optical profession, based in Godmersham, Kent. Established in 2001 by the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO), the college focuses on distance and blended learning, enabling learners to study while in paid employment. It is described as the only college in the UK devoted solely to the theory and practical aspects of ophthalmic dispensing and related specialist areas. ABDO College offers an extensive range of courses designed to meet individual needs, including programmes leading to the ABDO Diploma in Ophthalmic Dispensing (FBDO qualification), awarded by ABDO. Training is delivered through a combination of distance learning coursework and face-to-face tuition at its dedicated training facility in Kent, supported by experienced academic staff, course tutors and a committed courses team. The college emphasises high standards, strong examination results and a supportive learning environment. It also provides student accommodation for block-release and day courses, and operates the ABDO College Bookshop to supply required textbooks and related materials for optical education.
