About
National Institute of Teaching
The National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) is a school-led organisation focused on professional development for teachers and leaders across England. It offers programmes spanning the whole career pipeline, from initial teacher training through to National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) for specialist and senior leadership roles. Its NPQs are designed to be impact-focused and time-efficient, tailored to the needs of busy teachers and school leaders, and draw on contributions from schools in a wide range of contexts as well as expert teacher-educators. The NIoT generates its own research into effective professional development and uses these findings to inform and continually improve its programmes. It works through a nationwide network of associate colleges – successful school groups with strong expertise in teacher development – to extend its reach and ensure local relevance. The organisation’s vision is of a school system that nurtures the talents of teachers and leaders at every stage of their careers so they can provide children with a world-class education. In addition to delivering programmes, the NIoT conducts and shares research intended to benefit the wider education sector, not just partner schools.
