National Horseracing College (NHC) is a specialist training provider and centre of excellence for the horseracing industry, based near Doncaster. The college delivers a wide range of industry-focused training that supports the staffing needs of British racing, with a particular emphasis on developing young people. Provision includes a 12‑week residential Foundation Course that prepares learners for employment in racing yards, followed by apprenticeships and further training delivered and supported by NHC during their employment. The college reports that 94% of Foundation Course students progress into careers in the horseracing industry. NHC offers stable staff courses, jockey courses, supervisory and administrative training, pony racing, racehorse rider conversion courses and work experience placements, as well as non‑racing Level 2 and Level 3 apprenticeships in partnership with ABRS. In addition to formal qualifications, NHC promotes wider life skills such as budgeting, health and wellbeing, and communication. The college is one of only two specialist racing colleges nationally and is accredited by the British Horseracing Authority. It also provides facilities such as indoor and outdoor arenas, gallops, simulators and conferencing space, and was rated ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ elements by Ofsted in 2022.
