Lakes College is a further and higher education provider in West Cumbria offering a wide range of technical and professional training, including extensive apprenticeship provision. The college delivers apprenticeships from Level 2 to Level 6 across sectors such as business, care, catering, childcare, construction, engineering and health and safety, working with hundreds of employers to align training with workforce needs. Apprentices receive ‘earn while you learn’ opportunities, combining paid employment with off‑the‑job training delivered in college and in the workplace by technically qualified teachers and coaches. The college supports both recruitment of new apprentices and upskilling of existing staff, providing tailored training solutions and a structured process from vacancy advertising and candidate screening through to induction, regular progress reviews and preparation for end‑point assessment. Alongside apprenticeships, Lakes College offers full‑time and part‑time courses from Level 1 to degree level, T Levels, adult skills, distance learning and higher education programmes. Specialist facilities include a £7 million Construction Skills Centre, a Civil Engineering Training Centre, the National College for Nuclear northern hub and a Digital Accelerator Hub, providing industry‑standard environments for skills development and employer-focused training. The college also offers employer courses, green energy and skills programmes, and continuous professional development options to support local and regional skills needs.
