About
Cheynes Training
Cheynes Training is a specialist hairdressing and barbering training provider founded in 1988 to develop high‑quality training aligned to the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) structure. In 1989 it became the first national training provider for hairdressing when it launched an NVQ programme with UK government approval, and it has since worked with many hundreds of employers across Britain to deliver apprenticeship training for their salon staff. Its core aim is to raise standards in hairdressing and barbering and help young people start and progress their careers in the sector. Current programmes include a Level 1 Traineeship for under‑19s who want to try hairdressing or barbering before committing to an apprenticeship, combining academy-based practical and theory training with salon work experience. Apprenticeship provision focuses on the Level 2 Diploma for Hair Professionals in hairdressing and barbering, typically delivered over up to two years (around 20 months for barbering), and the Level 3 Diploma for Advanced and Creative Hair Professionals for those progressing from Level 2, usually over 18–24 months. Cheynes Training also offers a Level 3 NVQ Award in Hair and Barbering as a non‑apprenticeship route, which may be privately funded or supported via Adult Education Budget or advanced learner loan and typically takes around 12 months to complete.
Apprenticeships Offered:
Apprenticeship standards detail what an apprentice will be doing in their day-to-day job role.
Each standard lists the skills required of apprentices, and every standard is written by a group of employers called trailblazers-experts within their industry that have worked with countless apprentices.
Listed here are the apprenticeship standards this training provider offers training for.
