About
The Open University
The Open University is the UK’s largest academic institution and delivers higher and degree‑level apprenticeships designed for employed learners and their organisations. Through its apprenticeships in England (covering areas such as healthcare, policing, social work, digital, management and leadership) and digital and IT programmes in Wales, the OU combines work‑based learning with structured, tutor‑supported online study. Programmes are delivered flexibly using the OU’s established distance‑learning model, allowing apprentices to access learning 24/7 via computers and mobile devices and to fit off‑the‑job training around operational demands. Employers are supported by a dedicated apprenticeship team, including Account Managers and Apprenticeship Programme Delivery Managers, who help align programmes with workforce development needs, oversee progress and provide regular management information. Apprentices receive support from Practice Tutors and Academic Tutors who help them integrate academic learning with their roles, prepare for end‑point assessment (where applicable) and develop English and maths skills where needed. The OU also offers additional services such as disability and learning support, careers and employability resources, and access to a comprehensive online library and OpenLearn, helping organisations upskill existing staff or develop new talent through apprenticeships.
Apprenticeships Offered:
Apprenticeship standards detail what an apprentice will be doing in their day-to-day job role.
Each standard lists the skills required of apprentices, and every standard is written by a group of employers called trailblazers-experts within their industry that have worked with countless apprentices.
Listed here are the apprenticeship standards this training provider offers training for.
