Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (Royal Devon) offers a comprehensive programme of apprenticeships and staff development across its hospitals and community services in Devon. Through its Training and Development offer, Royal Devon supports individuals from entry-level roles through to advanced clinical and leadership positions, combining on-the-job learning with structured education. Apprenticeships are used to grow skills in both clinical and non-clinical areas, with pathways that include Trainee Nursing Associates, Trainee Assistant Practitioners and other roles working towards Level 5 foundation degrees. The Trust also supports degree apprenticeships, enabling staff to achieve full undergraduate or master’s degrees while employed, for example in radiography or therapy roles, with programmes typically taking three to six years. Apprenticeships are fully funded via the apprenticeship levy, with no training cost to the learner. Royal Devon’s People Development Academy delivers internal apprenticeship training and bespoke curricula aligned to the organisation’s culture, strategy and values, with a mission to develop confident, capable leaders and a vision to be a leading, respected apprenticeship provider. The wider offer includes work experience, support to achieve the Care Certificate, vocational courses, clinical skills training, e-learning, masterclasses and leadership development, giving employers and employees multiple routes to progress and upskill within the NHS.
