Mainstream is a national and international training and recruitment provider that began in 1997 with a small team, a forklift truck and a single lorry, and has grown into one of the UK’s larger skills providers. The organisation now employs over 100 staff, including around 70 highly skilled and experienced instructors delivering a wide range of courses and vocational qualifications. Mainstream focuses on hands-on, practical training that supports business growth and employee progression, with particular strengths in logistics, warehousing, driving, transport, construction and related sectors. Training is delivered at their centres and nationwide using their own vehicle fleet, instructors and multiple sites across England, and they can also train staff on employer premises using the employer’s own equipment. Courses are nationally accredited, with options for in‑house certification where appropriate, and equality, diversity and inclusiveness are highlighted as core principles. Mainstream is a partner to the Defence School of Transport, designing and managing driver training to upskill and reskill people serving and supporting the Army, Royal Air Force and Navy, and many instructors are Veterans. The organisation is funded for certain activities by the Department for Education and linked initiatives, and positions itself as “The driving force for the industry,” addressing skills shortages through flexible, workforce‑focused training solutions.
